October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Domestic violence unfortunately remains amazingly prevalent in our society. Estimates consistently indicate that between 25-30% of women experience domestic violence at some point in their lives.  In Wisconsin alone, 48 domestic violence victims were killed in 2013.  Anyone who has spent time at the Dane County Courthouse in Madison, as I have, on days when restraining orders are scheduled can attest to the extremely high rate of domestic abuse and harassment filings.  I am proud to serve as a frequent referral source from Domestic Abuse Intervention Services to represent victims of domestic violence.
Various Madison-area organizations will host events designed to raise awareness and aid victims of domestic abuse.  I strongly encourage you to participate in these events, for self-awareness and to assist victims.  You can find events at:
